Free Screening of the DEA Documentary – “Chasing The Dragon”

Monday, September 12 from 10:30-11:45 a.m.

The showing of the documentary and discussion afterwards, will be held at the Karen D. Young Memorial Auditorium, 801 Houston Street, Van Horn, TX 79855

A speaker from the Drug Enforcement Agency will be on hand to answer questions after the viewing.

A driving factor in the increased use of heroin since 2013 is prescription opioid abuse. Its demand has local drug traffickers catering to opioid abuse. There is a national epidemic of prescription opioid abuse directly related to the heroin epidemic.

Learn about the effects and consequences of Heroin use in the unscripted documentary.  Screening is intended for Health and Human Services Staff, Prevention Providers, Law Enforcement, CPS, School Staff, Border Patrol, and Hospital staff. Town Hall Meeting 

“Blood Shotting” new trend?

Dr. Jane Maxwell, a Sentinel Community Epidemiologist in Texas reported last year of the trend for “blood shotting” among intravenous users.  This term is used to describe blood that is “shot” from one user to another in order to maximize the amount of drug that is injected into their systems.

This is of particular importance for the STD-HIV populations, due to the maximum amount of infection that can occur by sharing needles.
